1. Claudia Sheinbaum, announced a historic record in Foreign Direct Investment

President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that Mexico registered a record in foreign direct investment in 2025, reaching a significant $34.265 million. The president highlighted this as a positive step for the country, a result of coordination with the Ministry of Economy. This figure surpasses previous years and represents a 10.2% increase, which Sheinbaum emphasized was achieved despite tariffs from the United States.

Sheinbaum also pointed to data from INEGI’s National Survey of Household Income and Expenditures, which showed a 15% reduction in poverty and a 1.8 percentage point decrease in extreme poverty between 2018 and 2024. This means approximately 13.4 million people have been lifted out of poverty. She emphasized that her government’s policies will focus on a 12.5% increase in the minimum wage this year, the implementation of social programs and welfare pensions, and public and private investment in strategic projects.

2. SENER confirms investment in electricity transmission network

Luz Elena González, head of the Ministry of Energy (SENER), has confirmed an investment of 163.54 billion pesos for the construction of 275 new strategic lines for the national electricity transmission network for the period from 2025 to 2030, which will cover 6,735 km and incorporate the latest technology to modernize the existing network.

This announcement follows President Claudia Sheinbaum’s declaration about the LitioMX project, which is exploring new ways to extract lithium from brines in oil wells. This strategy, also in collaboration with SENER and PEMEX, aims to strengthen energy transition projects and the technology industry by positioning and developiring projects such as the “Olinia” electric car, semiconductors, unmanned aircraft, satellites and measuring bouys in the Pacific Ocean.

3. The “Rutas de la Salud” Supply Strategy is Introduced

Alejandro Svarch, the director general of IMSS-Bienestar, has announced the launch of the “Rutas de la Salud” (Health Routes) strategy, a new model for distributing medicines and medical supplies. This strategy, developed in coordination with the Ministry of Health and regional institute´s regional teams, aims to ensure that every doctor has the necessary resources and that every patient receives the treatment they need during their medical consultation, with a focus on primary care. According to the official, medicine kits will be supplied on a monthly basis to the more than 8,000 medical units under IMSS-Bienestar.

The new kits include 147 essential medical keys identified by the National Health Programs, with treatments for conditions such as hypertension and diabetes, as well as analgesics. Each package contains 1,900 items and is designed to meet a health center’s monthly demand for consultations. The head of the executive branch also mentioned that the distribution of oncological drugs has already begun.

4. US suspends visa issuance to truck drivers

The U.S. government has announced a suspension on issuing visas to truck drivers, accusing them of “endangering the lives of Americans” on the roads. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, stated that this measure also harms the livelihoods of American truckers. This action affects approximately 55 million foreigners with U.S. visas that are under continuous review. The State Department confirmed that all visas will be reviewed, including those for students.

The visa suspension follows an accident on the Florida Turnpike, where a driver of Indian nationality, who was in the country illegally, made an improper turn that caused a crash resulting in three deaths. This measure comes at a time when the American trucking industry is facing a driver shortage. The American Trucking Associations projects this deficit will reach 82,000 drivers by the end of 2025.

5. Trilateral meeting held between Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala.

The governments of Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize have signed an agreement to protect and preserve the Maya Jungle, prompting the president to state that ratification of the agreement is not only a commitment to biodiversity, but also represents a brigde to the future, where sustainable development, regnerative tourism, and ancestral wisdom pave the way.In this context, the president also mentioned that her government will launch a second phase of the “Sembrando Vida” (Sowing Life) program in neighboring countries that share a border with Mexico’s southern region. The program aims to regenerate soil, restore forest cover in degraded areas, and promote food self-sufficiency. Above all, it seeks to improve the well-being of the communities that have long maintained a connection between themselves and the land.

Finally, other cooperative actions established in the agreement include sharing information, technology, and training on integrated fire management, illegal logging, deforestation, and the inclusive management and use of both timber and non-timber forest products to benefit local communities.
