1. Foreign Affairs Minister Diana Mondino to be replaced by Gerardo Werthein
Argentina’s Foreign Affairs Minister Diana Mondino was asked to resign because she voted in favor of lifting the embargo on Cuba at the UN General Assembly. Gerardo Werthein, Argentine ambassador to the U.S., will replace the former official as head of the Foreign Ministry. President Javier Milei chose him on the basis of his achievements in Washington. The diplomat is also vice-president of the International Olympic Committee. Werthein, a confidante of the Head of State, seconded Milei in meetings held in the U.S. even before he took office as head of the executive power. He participated in the president’s agenda every time he traveled to the U.S. and played a prominent role in his last visit to New York, at the end of September, when he spoke before the UN, visited the Wall Street Stock Exchange and met with tycoon Elon Musk. The government will also initiate an audit of the Foreign Ministry staff to identify “promoters of anti-freedom agendas,” as announced in a press release.

2. Milei participated in the 47th anniversary of the Mediterránea Foundation
Javier Milei participated in the 47th anniversary of the Fundación Mediterránea, where he was received by the Governor of the Province of Córdoba, Martín Llaryora. During his speech before businessmen, leaders and social referents from the interior of the country, he presented his dollarization plan, focused on eliminating the fiscal deficit and reducing the size of the State, arguing that these changes are necessary for the economic stabilization and growth of the country. “I am the first liberal-libertarian president in the history of mankind,” he said, reiterating his criticism of the traditional policies that, according to him, have affected the Argentine economy. The business community’s reception was positive, with interest in his proposals for deep reforms in monetary and fiscal policy.

3. Chamber of Deputies moved forward with rulings on DNU law and privatization of Aerolíneas Argentinas
This week, the opposition dealt a blow to the government by passing a bill that modifies the DNU law to limit the power of Javier Milei’s “decretazos.” The bill establishes that the rejection of only one chamber is enough to overturn them and sets a term of 90 days so that it will automatically fail if Congress does not endorse it within that period. Now they are going to request a special session to vote on it before the end of the month, although Milei has already stated that if it is approved, he will veto it. Separately, the government managed to issue a majority opinion to privatize Aerolíneas Argentinas and, with this, it is in a position to take this discussion to the Chamber of Deputies, where it still does not have a guaranteed victory.
