1. Inflation and the basic basket of goods remained below 2% in July

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for July 2025 rose 1.9% compared to the previous month, accumulating 17.3% so far this year and 36.6% year-on-year, according to data from INDEC. Recreation and culture was the category with the highest monthly increase, at 4.8%, driven by entertainment and tourism services during the winter break. This was followed by transportation (2.8%), due to increases in public transportation and vehicle maintenance, and restaurants and hotels (2.8%). At the other end of the spectrum, clothing and footwear fell 0.9% due to seasonal sales and promotions in the face of competition from online shopping. Food and non-alcoholic beverages increased 1.9%. Likewise, the basic food basket (CBA) and the total basic basket (CBT) registered an increase of 1.9%, matching the overall inflation rate for that month. Parity with the CPI shows that the cost of food and essential goods and services closely followed the general evolution of price levels.
