1. Government promotes a strong restructuring of the State to achieve annual savings of AR$570 billion

The Government announced a deep restructuring of the State which includes the dissolution, merger or transformation of more than 20 public agencies, mainly in the areas of transportation and agribusiness, with the purpose of reducing state expenditure and gaining administrative efficiency. According to official data, these measures will allow an estimated saving of AR$570.5 billion per year, which represents one of the most significant cuts so far this administration. In the area of Transportation, the elimination of Vialidad Nacional and the Agencia Nacional de Seguridad Vial (National Road Safety Agency) stand out. The National Commission for Transport Regulation (CNRT) will also be merged into a new National Agency for Mobility and Transport Safety, together with the reconversion of the Transport Safety Board into an agency focused only on aviation accidents. In the agribusiness sector, the Government dissolved the National Seed Institute (INASE) and transformed it into an internal directorate of the Secretariat of Bioeconomy, while the National Wine Institute (INV) was restructured.

2. Relationship between Milei and the Governors is strained

President Javier Milei lashed out against the governors, who united to ask for the transfer of funds to the provinces and decided not to participate in the central celebration of Independence Day. He accused all the governors, both those who accompanied him during his administration and those who did not, of wanting to “destroy” his government and “break everything,” for electoral and power reasons. “They want to destroy the national government, all of them,” said the President about the governors. “Their intention is to break everything because if La Libertad Avanza becomes ‘La Libertad Arrasa’, they have a problem, they have to retire. They do not care about the Argentines, they are willing to make them suffer as long as they keep their power,” he said. He also stated that there was an increase in tax collection of between 7% and 8%, which benefits the local administrations, contrary to what the provincial governors claim, who claim that the transfers from the Casa Rosada are cut off.

3. With the encouragement of the governors, the opposition seeks to give a hard blow to the Government in the Senate

The Government of Javier Milei faces an inevitable significant political defeat in the Senate, where a broad opposition majority plans to unite to pass bills that would force the Casa Rosada to distribute funds to the provinces which, according to the governors, have been unduly withheld from them. The session, which will be held without an official call to avoid showing weakness on the part of Vice President Victoria Villarruel, will have the necessary quorum thanks to an alliance between Unión por la Patria, the UCR and part of the PRO. In addition to the issue of provincial funds, it is expected that bills for the reinstatement of pensions and the emergency in services for people with disabilities will be approved, while a pension moratorium will probably not prosper. This situation marks the first time that all the opposition unites against Milei’s government in a legislative action, which could lead both chambers to insist in case of a presidential veto.

4. The Prime Minister of India visits Argentina, received by Javier Milei

President Javier Milei held a private meeting in his office at the Casa Rosada with the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Narendra Modi, with whom he agreed to deepen the bilateral relationship and trade exchange, especially in energy and food. The Presidents shared an extended meeting with their delegations in the Eva Perón Hall, and then the Head of State offered an official lunch in honor of the Indian authorities. This is the first time in 57 years that an Indian head of government has paid a bilateral visit to Argentina. In the past, Indian Prime Ministers – including Modi himself on the occasion of the G20 in 2018 – visited our country.

5. The alliances for the elections of the Province of Buenos Aires have been defined

The Electoral Board of the Province of Buenos Aires made official the registration of nine electoral alliances to compete in the elections of September 7, 2025, after a process of last-minute negotiations and the splitting of the provincial elections from the national calendar. Among these coalitions, the main ones stand out: Fuerza Patria, which agglutinates Peronism with the signature of Axel Kicillof, Sergio Massa and Máximo Kirchner, under an internal regulation that defines the distribution of spaces; and Alianza La Libertad Avanza, a united front between PRO and Javier Milei’s space, which consolidated the participation of the 13 mayors of the main opposition party and sealed its ideological character against Kirchnerism. Other relevant fronts include Somos Buenos Aires, which arose from the union between radicals, dissident Peronists and other provincial forces, together with Espert’s libertarians who will compete under the seal Avanza Libertad. In addition, Frente de Izquierda y de los Trabajadores-Unidad, Potencia (formed by MID and UNIR, led by María Eugenia Talerico), and three other fronts: “Es con Vos, es con Nosotros”, “Nuevos Aires” and “Confianza Pública”.
