1. AUS accusations against Mexico are increasing
The U.S. Department of the Treasury issued orders identifying CI Banco, Intercam, and Vector Casa de Bolsa as institutions that launder money for various drug cartels. Scott Benssent, head of the department, stated that the financial entities collectively manage assets worth 22 billion dollars.
For its part, Mexico’s Ministry of Finance reported that a review process has already begun within the framework of national regulation. The financial institutions have also rejected the accusations against them, stating that each of their transactions corresponds to legally constituted companies. This adds to the affirmations of Pam Bondi, Attorney General of the United States, in including Mexico as one of the enemy countries of the North American nation due to its lack of action in addressing drug cartels in Mexico.

2. A reduction in the retirement age for teachers has been announced
President Claudia Sheinbaum announced two decrees concerning education: one related to the dissolution of the Unit for the System of the Career of Teachers (USICAMM), and the second focused on reducing the retirement age in this sector. Accompanied by the Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado, she detailed that the new decision is backed by a national consultation conducted on May 30th during a session with the School Technical Council.
With the new measure, women will be able to retire at 53 and men at 55 by 2034, in contrast to 58 and 60 respectively. This measure comes as a response to the protests carried out by the teaching profession in previous weeks.

3. Companies 15 welfare poles aimed at economic development are starting.
On Thursday morning, the Mexican government announced the launch of the first 15 Economic Development Poles for Well-being, aimed at boosting investment, generating jobs, organizing urban growth, and promoting an industrial model with an environmental focus.
Accompanied by 14 governors, the President Sheinbaum, explained that these poles will combine industrial zones with housing, educational, and health infrastructure to ensure comprehensive and sustainable growth. It was emphasized that the governors must coordinate with the federation, as they will be the ones launching the tenders for the installation of companies and thus promptly resolving all procedures.

4. An electoral reform is being prepared; the INE will remain autonomous.
During Wednesday’s morning press conference, President Claudia Sheinbaum informed about her proposed electoral reform, stating that her government will promote changes to reduce spending on election organization and modify the system of proportional representation legislators. She also pointed out that the Electoral Institute will remain an autonomous body to guarantee clean and democratic elections, but with actions that rationalize spending.
For its part, the Morena caucus in the Chamber of Deputies, led by Deputy Ricardo Monreal, has stated that they are ready to analyze the eventual proposal in September when the next legislative period begins.

5. Russia aims to establish a corridor in Mexico
The director of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Aleksey Valkov, explained Russia’s strategy to expand its presence in Latin America and how Mexico is the key axis in economic, nuclear, and infrastructure matters. Therefore, the first step has a logistical and commercial component to create a direct air route between Moscow and Mexico with a stopover in Havana. The official detailed that the proposal has already been presented to members of the President’s government, and a corridor between Yucatán, Cuba, and Russia was proposed to attract tourism and build a direct channel for entrepreneurs and investors, creating an air highway for business.
The official noted that relations with Mexico are long-term and that during the previous administration, Russian investment in the country reached 86.4 million dollars, according to data from the Ministry of Economy.
