1. President Sheinbaum Congratulates President-Elect Donald Trump 

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump had their first contact following the election, described as a cordial conversation. Sheinbaum expressed her desire to strengthen the bilateral relationship based on cooperation and respect, noting that there will be time to address specific items on the agenda between the two countries.

Marcelo Ebrard, Secretary of Economy, also congratulated the Republican president-elect, wishing him success in his administration. In subsequent interviews, Ebrard indicated that the renegotiation of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), scheduled for 2026, is not at risk, highlighting the solid growth in exports and imports between the two nations.

2. Supreme Court rejects a proposal aimed at overturning the judicial reform 

In a plenary session, the justices of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation dismissed a proposal that sought to annul the judicial reform initiated by former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador. The decision was finalized after the Plenary failed to reach the eight votes needed to invalidate the regulation, thus eliminating the main possibility of challenging the recent changes to the country’s judicial system.

This decision concludes months of confrontation between the Judiciary and Morena, the party that controls both the Executive and Congress, over the most controversial aspects of the reform, such as the election of judges and justices, which will be implemented starting next year.

3. Chamber of Deputies Publishes Opinion for Organizational Streamlining

During a Plenary session, the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Deputies made public a proposal for organizational streamlining, which would lead to the elimination of seven autonomous bodies. This initiative would remove regulatory institutions considered essential for maintaining competition in strategic sectors such as energy, communications, and data protection.

Ricardo Monreal, president of the Political Coordination Commission, stated that the measure is expected to be discussed and approved next week. However, prior to this, commissioners from the National Institute for Transparency, Access to Information, and Personal Data Protection (INAI) met with Senator Gerardo Fernández Noroña to exchange views on the implications of this reform.

4. Inflation Rises; Growth Expectations Decrease 

The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) released the inflation rate for October, which stood at 4.76% year-over-year compared to October of the previous year. This figure breaks the downward trend observed over the last three months.

Meanwhile, BBVA Mexico presented its Regional Sectoral Situation report, indicating that the economic slowdown will be a nationwide phenomenon due to weak domestic demand, low job creation, and a decline in public spending.

5. Executive Submits Initiative to Create New Offices 

President Claudia Sheinbaum submitted an initiative to the Chamber of Deputies to amend the Organic Law of the Federal Public Administration with the aim of creating three new federal government entities and adjusting the responsibilities of others. The proposal includes the creation of the Secretariat for Women (SM), the Secretariat for Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation (SCHTI), and the Digital Transformation and Telecommunications Agency (ATDT).

As one of the new institutions, the Digital Transformation Agency will be responsible for eliminating, reducing, and simplifying procedures through digital services for citizens, as well as reducing procedures for companies seeking to invest in the country.
