1. The lists for the Buenos Aires province elections have been closed

The closing of the lists in the province of Buenos Aires, an already complex process fraught with internal disputes, was extended by 36 hours due to two power outages that affected the Buenos Aires Electoral Board. This forced extension allowed negotiations to drag on even longer before the final decision was made. In Fuerza Patria, Kirchnerism and Axel Kicillof’s camp showed their strength, with Gabriel Katopodis and Verónica Magario positioned by Kicillof in key sections, while figures linked to Cristina Kirchner and La Cámpora predominated in the rest. For its part, the PRO achieved a surprising and strong insertion in the lists, benefiting from internal decisions by La Libertad Avanza, with Cristian Ritondo and Diego Santilli standing out. Finally, the Somos Buenos Aires front, led by Facundo Manes, consolidated its territorial base by adding influential mayors such as Julio Zamora (Tigre), Manuel Passaglia (San Nicolás), and Pablo Petrecca (Junín), marking an electoral landscape with defined candidates amid alliances and internal struggles.

The Indec reported that in May, the monthly economic activity estimator (EMAE) registered a 5.0% increase in year-on-year terms and a 0.1% decline compared to April in seasonally adjusted terms. Compared to the same month in 2024, 13 of the sectors of activity that make up the EMAE recorded increases, among which financial intermediation (25.8%) and fishing (12.2%) stand out. In turn, wholesale and retail trade and repairs had the greatest positive impact on the year-on-year variation in the EMAE, followed by financial intermediation and manufacturing. Meanwhile, two sectors of activity recorded declines in the year-on-year comparison: electricity, gas, and water, and public administration and defense. These activities subtracted 0.20 percentage points from the EMAE’s year-on-year growth.
