The Federal Oral Court No. 2 decided this afternoon to grant Cristina Kirchner house arrest. The decision of the court presided by Judge Jorge Gorini imposes the use of an electronic anklet on the former president and enables the presentation of a list of people who may visit her without authorization in the apartment she chose to serve her sentence, in the neighborhood of Constitución. In this context, several groups, activists and self-organized people have expressed their opposition to her detention, mobilizing to Plaza de Mayo.

2. In May, the National Public Sector once again recorded a financial surplus of Ch$662,123 billion
During May, the National Public Sector (NPS) recorded a financial surplus of Ch$662,123 billion, as a result of a primary result of Ch$1,696,917 billion, and of an interest payment on public debt net of intra-public sector for Ch$1,034,795 billion. Thus, the NPS accumulated a financial surplus of approximately 0.3% of GDP (primary surplus of approximately 0.8% of GDP), consolidating the fiscal anchor of the government program. The positive result is not only in the context of a drop in revenues, but also in view of the fulfillment of the IMF targets. In addition, it will make it possible to meet the higher demand on spending expected for July and December, linked to the payment of Christmas bonuses, considered “seasonal deficit” months.

3. Reform of the Federal Police
The National Government made official a deep reform in the structure of the Argentine Federal Police with the creation of the Federal Investigation Department (DFI), an elite force. The announcement was formalized through decree 383/2025, and proposes a comprehensive restructuring that includes greater technological capacity, specific training, articulation with the Judiciary and the possibility of operating in sensitive areas such as social networks and digital spaces. The DFI statute enables agents to conduct monitoring and investigations in social networks without a court order, which raised concerns about the possibility of allowing ideological persecutions. In addition, it enables preventive street control, something that set off alarms in social and human rights sectors. The reform proposes a new paradigm of state security, but also puts in tension constitutional rights such as privacy, freedom of expression and freedom of movement throughout the national territory.
4. The Government deregulates imports for science and eliminates state controls
Through Decree 395/2025, amendments were introduced to Law No. 25.613 with the aim of facilitating the importation of goods and inputs for scientific and technological research projects. The initiative was jointly promoted by the Secretariat of Innovation, Science and Technology and the Ministry of Deregulation and Transformation of the State, within the framework of an agenda aimed at reducing bureaucracy and supporting the national scientific system. Among the most important changes, the Secretariat becomes the sole enforcement authority of the law, ceasing to have control functions over imported goods. In addition, the Control and Follow-up Commission, a body that generated unnecessary delays in the entry of key inputs for research, is eliminated. Law 25,613 establishes a special regime that exempts entities engaged in scientific and technological activities from the payment of taxes, levies and import duties.

5. Total public debt decreased by 2.5% in May
The Secretariat of Finance, headed by Pablo Quirno, informed that the total gross public debt of the Central Administration decreased in May by USD 11,901 million, to USD 461,019 million. The drop represented a decrease of 2.53% with respect to the level recorded in April, being the second decrease in 16 months and the third in Javier Milei’s administration. The decrease was due to the entry of funds from the Extended Facilities Agreement with the IMF and other multilateral organizations, which were destined to the redemption of Treasury Non-Transferable Bills held by the Central Bank, an operation aimed at strengthening reserves and facilitating the exit from the exchange rate hedge.
